About Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric procedures are often classified as restrictive or malabsorptive. Restrictive procedures work to limit food intake by creating a small gastric reservoir with a narrow outlet, which delays emptying. In this intervention, no part of the stomach is removed and the digestive process remains intact. Alternatively, malabsorptive procedures limit the amount of nutrients the body absorbs by bypassing a portion of the small intestine.
